Dr. Martin is a highly accomplished Research Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Adjunct Associate Professor in Population Health Sciences, specializing in health system innovation and research. He is actively involved in musculoskeletal outcomes health service research, focusing on the evaluation of coverage and reimbursement policy effects on healthcare utilization and outcomes. Dr. Martin is a dedicated member of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and has contributed to the Interagency Pain Research Coordinating Committee's Public Health, Service Delivery, and Reimbursement working group. With previous experience as a co-investigator on NIAMS-funded Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Centers, he has published extensively on topics such as the economic burden of back pain, trends in lumbar fusion procedures using bone morphogenetic proteins, and provider variation in spine surgery safety. Currently, Dr. Martin oversees the longitudinal collection of patient-reported outcomes in the PCORI-funded Comparative Effectiveness of Pulmonary Embolism Prevention after Hip and Knee Replacement (PEPPER) trial involving 25 participating sites.
