Scientific Sessions/Tracks

Session on Spine Structure and Functions: The natural curvature of a healthy spine forms an S shape. These curves protect the spine from harm by absorbing shocks. S spine is made up of many different parts: Soft tissues, Vertebrae, Facet joints, intervertebral discs, Spinal cord and nerves. The 33 vertebrae make up five different spine segments. The cervical (neck), Thoracic (middle back), Lumbar (lower back), Sacrum, and Coccyx (tailbone) are the segments that run from the neck to the buttocks (rear end). The spine supports the body and helps walk, twist and move.

Session on Spinal cord and nerves: The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that runs the length of the spine. The cord runs from the skull to the lower back. Through vertebral openings (the neural foramen) thirty-one pairs of nerves branch out. These nerves transmit messages from the brain to the muscles.

Session on Congenital Spine abnormalities: Congenital spine abnormalities are spinal problems that appear early in life. Some of these disorders can lead to improper spine alignment. Others may cause nerve damage, resulting in difficulty moving the arms or legs, toilet troubles, or pain. Many congenital spine disorders are linked to spina bifida.

Session on Spinal deformities: Scoliosis, Kyphosis, and Lordosis: Scoliosis is a side-to-side curvature of the spine that can occur in adults as their facet joints and discs wear out. Kyphosis is most usually caused by osteoporotic compression fractures in the upper (thoracic) back. Lordosis is also known as swayback. Lordosis is a condition in which the lower back curves substantially inward, creating the illusion of a backward lean.

Session on Degenerative Disc Disease: Wear down of spinal discs, is called degenerative disc disease. The rubbery cushions that separate your vertebrae are known as spinal discs (bones in your spinal column). They work as shock absorbers, allowing you to comfortably move, bend, and twist. It is a natural component of ageing for spinal discs to deteriorate.

Session on Spine Cancer: Spinal cancer is a relatively uncommon disease, affecting about 1 in 140 men and 1 in 180 women in their lifetime. The incidence of brain tumours is higher than that of spinal tumours. Primary spinal cord or column cancers arise from cells inside the spinal cord or its surrounding tissues.

Session on Spine Osteoporosis: Back pain, height loss, and a bent posture can all arise from the bones that make up your spine (vertebrae) weakening to the point where they fold and collapse. The most significant impact of osteoporosis is bone fractures, particularly in the spine.

Session on Spondylosis: Spondylosis is a kind of arthritis caused by spine wear and strain. It occurs when discs and joints deteriorate, or when bone spurs form on the spine. These modifications can influence the movement of the spine, as well as the nerves and other processes.

Session on Spinal muscular atrophy: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic condition characterised by muscle wastage (atrophy) and weakness (skeletal muscles) and it is caused by the loss of motor neurons.

Session on Spine Injury and Fracture: A spinal fracture occurs when the vertebrae (backbone) dislocate or fracture. It can happen anywhere along the spine. Car accidents fall, sports or other high-velocity impacts are the most common causes of spinal fractures. Minor spine fractures can be treated with rest and medicine, but more serious fractures may necessitate surgery to realign the bones. Spinal fractures can result in irreversible spinal cord injury, nerve loss, and paralysis if not treated.

Session on Spinal Pathology and Infection: An infectious condition that affects the vertebral body, intervertebral disc, or neighbouring paraspinal tissue is known as spinal infection. It is responsible for 2–7% of all musculoskeletal infections. The most prevalent type of vertebral infection is pyrogenic vertebral osteomyelitis. Direct open spinal injuries, infections in neighbouring structures, hematogenous transfer of germs to a vertebra, and surgical complications are all possible causes.

Session on Imaging, Diagnosis and Treatment of Spine: Various imaging modalities, such as radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and additional tests such as EOS, bone scan, single-photon emission CT/CT, and electrophysiologic test, can be used to diagnose spine pathology.

Session on Minimally invasive Spine Surgery: Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) is also called less invasive spine surgery. In these procedures, doctors use specialized equipment to access the spine through small incisions in these operations.

Session on Spinal Tissue Engineering: Tissue engineering is a promising method used for the treatment of SCI. It involves three factors: the scaffold, the seed cell and a growth factor. The selection of a proper seed cell, scaffold, and growth factor is necessary for the repair technique to be successful.

Session on Lumbar Disc Replacement: Back or spine surgery is known as lumbar disc replacement. Lumbar disc replacement is an alternative to spinal fusion surgery. Two vertebrae are fused together permanently. Lumbar disc replacement is a complex procedure that necessitates general anaesthesia as well as a stay in the hospital.

Session on Chiropractic Spinal Care: Hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments are used by chiropractors. According to the hypothesis, appropriate alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, especially the spine, will allow the body to repair itself without the need for surgery or medicine. Chiropractic care is usually used to relieve pain in muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue like cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It's occasionally used in conjunction with traditional medical treatment.

Session on Spinal Rehabilitation: SCI rehabilitation is a lengthy procedure. Of course, a physical conditioning regimen is included (eg, strengthening muscles and relearning how to do basic tasks). However, there is also a mental and emotional component that assists you in accepting the amount of your spinal damage, loss of independence, and financial burden. Following a spinal cord injury, rehabilitation may include a physical conditioning programme that includes muscle strengthening exercises.
